How to prepare for Information Technology and Strategic Management For CA – IPCC

I am quite sure that most of you might have started preparation for May 2014 attempt. While preparing study plans / time tables, you should keep one thing in mind that “IPCC is not passed by only hard study; the way (and perhaps an easier way too) to pass the IPCC is SMART STUDY”. Today I am going to give some handy tips on how to prepare and clear Paper – 7 Information Technology and Strategic Management (ITSM) since lots of students get stuck and fail in this subject.

General Tips:

1. Prepare your study plan in such a manner that you at least read the complete modules ONCE. Module at the outset is a book which will not be touched even with left hand. I understand that there is some kind of mind block with the modules. But for ITSM, this book is “Bible”. Even Padhukais also prepared out of this material with past questions and answers…

2. Concentrate on Practice Manual. At least 45-50 marks questions are asked from practice manual. This is important during the last month studies and is a definite score booster.

Tips for Information Technology:

1. Start with easy chapters like Data Storage, Retrieval and DBMS. These topics have good weightage too.

2. Secondly, complete Flow Chart and Decision Table. In case, both the questions are asked, then each question will carry around 4/5 marks; otherwise, if any one question is asked then the weightage will be around 8/10 marks. Though, prima facie, they appear to be difficult, with practice you will find them much simpler and scoring.

3.   Thirdly, switch to Internet & Other technologies. The units under this chapter are easy to apprehend.

4.   After you are done with above, focuson Software and Computer Network & Network Security. Since these chapters are very heavy, you can decide to do selective repeat questions from scanner, suggested answers, etc. Please note that ICAI has omitted certain syllabus from this section and therefore Software Chapter has assumed more weight.

5.  And finally, before the paper, concentrate on Definitions. This simple question will give you the important first 10 marks of the papers and will build your confidence for the remaining part of the paper.

Tips for Strategic Management:

1. Start with Practice Manual first before you begin the module. This should cover your 60%-70% of the syllabus. Focus on repeat questions.

2. Thereafter begin reading module. Start in reverse sequence i.e. last chapter first and so on.

3.  Do all the questions appearing at the end of the chapter since many a times True or False comes out of it only.

4. Sometimes, Fill in the Blanks are asked. Quotations given at the beginning of each chapter will help you attempt them easily.

Lastly, I just wish to say –Everything is important in CA examination, except nothing… LOL but true!

ALL THE BEST….. GOD BLESS….
